SOME people enjoy planning and creating their dream garden but there are others who find the whole idea totally daunting and would love to hand the job over to a top designer – if they did not have a nagging worry about the price.
But now Joe Swift, my old colleague from Gardener’s World, has hit on a very practical solution. In tandem with a couple of very well qualified chums, he is offering a personal design service through the trio’s
company, Modular Garden.
It works very much like bringing in a firm to put in a new kitchen. There is a free visit to assess the space and find out what facilities the client needs (and, very important this, how much gardening they are prepared to do later). Then they agree a scheme – which is overseen by Joe himself – and work out the price of the whole job including plants, paving, features and other ingredients which could even include
new garden furniture.
Finally, Joe’s people come along and put the lot in. When they have finished, they leave behind a personal maintenance schedule so the owners know what they need to do to keep their designer garden in mint condition.
And clients know exactly what they are in for, right from the start: the fee starts at £6,000.
