Not Common Or Garden

Joe Swift relished making Garden Makers (6:30pm UKTV Style), partly because it features gardens from the National Garden Scheme, as well as makeovers. “These are private gardens that are opened to the public for a small fee for charity,” says Swift. “They’re full of contrasts, ranging from tiny little

gardens in London to two-acre gardens in Surrey.” For details of the “Yellow Book”, which lists 3,500 gardens open nationwide, see www.ngs.org.uk.

Apart from his TV work, Swift runs his own garden-design business. “That’s at the high-end of the

market, but there are a lot of people who aren’t gardening enthusiasts who want a nice garden on a limited budget,” he says. “I’m putting a lot of my energy into a business called Modular Garden. We want to make buying a garden as easy as buying a car.”
