Situated on a steep slope, this urban garden features a prominent terrace to create flat levels and make the garden usable. Aging concrete pavers and overgrown plants resulted in the garden looking tired and uninviting.
In order to create a sense of continuity between house and garden, grey ceramic tiles were laid to match the interior concrete flooring. The raised part of the garden the most sunlight, so became a hardwood decked space for a dining table and the clients' own modern furniture. Bamboos and grasses were chosen for their low maintenance requirements and architectural forms that soften the tall wall retaining the upper area.
