Having lived in the property for many years and with the children now grown up, this couple decided it was time to treat themselves to a beautiful garden. The sloping garden was overgrown and the dilapidated boundaries needed replacing. A new, radical approach was required to transform the garden into a stylish, grown-up space.
First, the garden was terraced to create a series of level areas to provide a range of functions such as dining, relaxing and the odd barbecue. Smart slatted fencing and pleached Hornbeam trees replaced the old fencing to provide privacy from overlooking neighbours. An existing brick wall had a dominating presence and looked old-fashioned; the solution to this was to give it a contemporary look by rendering and painting it a pale colour to reflect light back into the garden and brighten the space considerably.
